Went fishing in my local wetlands for Amano Shrimp yesterday.
Due to the rain, the streams in the wetland were heavy flowing so we found none (Got hundreds last year!)
As we were packing up the net, I saw something wiggling in my mates net (guy pictured)
It was a small Japanese Salamander!

So cute, I decided to keep it. My tanks are all monster fish (Oscars, Bichirs, Snakeheads, Dats etc) so I have put him in my feeder tank containing balloon mollies and guppies.
Just thought I would share pics:

wow isnt he an axolotl

is this in uk if so can you pm where

yeah the wetland never stood out to me but i werent sure if the japanese salamda was a animal that had been illegally introduced to uk waters

axolotyls are the same as salamanders, they just don't loose their gills and spend the rest of their lives in water, salamanders start of life exactly the same as axolotyl but emerge from water, loose their gills and form bigger internal lungs, cute little critter isn't it, what if it turns into a salamander they are amphibeans that spend the majority of their lives out of water???

pretty harsh taking it out of the wild IMO

im sure he would have preferred to stay there than kept in a tank

Well, even harsher if I decide to feed him to my monsters. . .

Nah, don't think I could do that the the little sweetie.
I don't think it's that harsh at all really. Where I come from they are aplenty and keeping wild fish etc is quite common.
I have been keeping fish for many many years, and my water paramaters are incredibly good, so I think he will be just fine.

And Dave, I used to keep turtles, and used to setup a water / land tank with them. Do you think this could work?

wow i wish i lived in the east instead of in Arizona so i could find a cute salamander to add to my molly/guppy/platy tank :(

im no expert but i think they are either born to be salamanders or born to be axolotyl, if axalotyl then it will be fine in the tank, if you see loss of external gills as it grown it will be salamander, in which case it would need more of a damp, mossy, tank with small pool of water.
look them up, i have limited knowledge on them!

Well, it's been a few weeks now and the little cutie has turned into a full salamander.
Has droped its ear bits, it's tale has become more "tail" like and its head and body more lizard like.
Here are a few fresh photos:
