how do you get spawning mops to not float.

i made sum up and boiled them now when i put them into the tank they just float on top of the water and down sit vertical for fish to spawn into?
any help??

i dont want it to sink to the bottom as i need it for the fish to breed in , so need it to kind of drop down like a curtain does?

anyone any ideas??

I just washed mine with soapy water before I used them and they always sank. Maybe try some soap, not detergeant just soap. Lather them up and rinse them off. Then see what happens.
Make sure you rinse them well because soap can mess up the surface tension in the tank and the fish can suffocate.

My first guess is that because they are made with yarn it has small bubbles trapped in the mop. If you squeeze it out well while its in your tank you should be able to get rid of any bubbles that are trapped in the mop and it will hang down more. This is only a guess, I haven't seen your mops.

First off what type of material are you using.....
Use 100% acrylic yarn (manmade fibre) from your local knitting shop. I use dark green or brown for the killifish. Have you made enough winds around a book to give it some weight. Boil them first to get rid of excess dye. the strands will be waterlogged.
I have never heard of a mop with floating strands, even if there is trapped air the strands will become waterlogged eventually.
