It used to be a nano reef but that was taken down a long time ago and its just been sitting in the storage room. Now I've taken it back out and just looking at it with the filters sitting inside and the light on top saying, "Plug us up!".

So....I'm wondering what would be good. Will a betta be good for this tank if I get other fish too? I've read those little hexes are terrible for them yet people freak when they see one in a 55 gallon or so....so I'm left to wonder what they actually prefer?

Also....any other suggestions?

Edit: I'm definately planning on ADFs, ghost shrimp, and apple snails (possibly ramshorn too). So the community or whatever will have to be built around that.

I was just wondering how much it would cost for a complete 10 gallon tank, with just filter, heater, etc.

Make it into a planted shrimp tank! I plan to do that or a FOWLR saltwater tank.

A school of neon tetras (smaller than cardinals, so better for a 10g) , some bottom dwellers and livebearers (guppies or endlers). Like I have. That would be fully stocked though and with a nice filter, it would be an excellent tank!

Tank varies £30 - £70 say.
Heater £20
Filter £40
Gravel and other stuff for going in tank maybe £40
Fish £20
Bonus items including water test kits, cleaning stuff, meds etc. about £75

So all in all around £200 - £250 and your fish are just about the cheapest addition (how ironic  )

Well for me:

Tank- £20
Hood - £8
Lighting - £25
Gravel - £10
Filter - £30
Heater - £24
Mini items - £30
Fish - £15

All in all about 130-140 quid.

That was for my 11gallon anyway

Now I just feel cheap :p
Tank - $10
Hood - $25
Lighting- Came with hood
Gravel-Used from the buckets I got from buying a used 90 gallon. I could set up 20 more tanks with it all!
Filter- $10
Heater- $12
Decorations - Plastic plants-came with 90 gallon, just used leftovers Live plants - $8 Driftwood- Free. I just dug mine up and boiled it
Fish- $7

Altogether - about $75

Anyways,... for the 10,... I'd go with a pretty male betta, but then again, I got obsessed with them. I'm not too sure how they'd go with your snails & other things though.

EDIT: the betta will probably go with the snails, and surely the ADFs, but it will probably eat the ghost shrimp.

wow i got my 180 gallon tank up and running and stocked for less than £200.

are your filters seeded with gold dust or something?

dnt think ive ever spent as much as some of you jus quoted on any of my tanks.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

I think you might be right about the betta papasmurf.

I think this is what I'm gonna go for...unless anyone sees a problem with it;

6 Neon Tetras

6 Harlequin Rasboras

3 Cory Cats

3 ADFs

5 Ghost Shrimp

Its most likely gonna be live planted with plenty of nutrient sucking plants, including some pothos rooted in the water and hanging out the top. Gonna have 2 20watt pc's in the screw-in light fixture, sand, and maybe a piece of driftwood.

Sounds like a beautiful tank.... I only suggest adding the tetras last as they are very sensitive little buggers. And if you have the kind of luck I do with shrimp, they'll die off on you over a few weeks time and you'll have to buy more. I don't mind though as they are quite cool to watch.

Dont add the ADF's and i think you'll be good to go!

Sam, I'll go for second hand stuff next time ;)

Just found it easier buying from the lfs, and I like brand new stuff, no idea why!
