Spader's First Planted Tank Journal

Hi Spader,

Is that Madagscan lace plant (Aponogeton madagascariensis) real? If it is well done, that's a great specimen! :D

Unfortunately, the plant next to it (with the patterned red/silver leaves) is not an aquatic plant and will eventually rot and pollute your tank! :(

Don't ask me why LFS's sell these as aquatic plants but they do, they also charge over the odds for most plant's seeing as many of them are common weeds in the wild! :grr:

eh i give up. the new plants always break and ruin my filter, and my fish are unhappy. ill just get rid of the plant, and get some fake ones. :[

Try some Vallis...

..It grows really well in most tanks and covers up whatever you want it to. The roots are easily split and once you've bought one you need never buy another!

It look like tall grass and most fish love swimming through it. There's also a twisted form that looks even more spectacular!

Tank looks really good by the way, loving the sand and white substrate!

hmm i might try it so some fry may actually live in 28 more days.... and there was a mix up in the sand bags
so i ended up with 2 colors of sand! lol thanks for the compliments

Hi. Looking good so far. Have you got a hood with lights yet? If you haven't that could be why some plants are breaking and dying. I only ever started having success when I bought sufficient light for the plants I had. Before I couldn't grow any plants in my tanks, but now many of them are growing fast enough that I often have to thin them out!
