Hi there,
I have posted about this previously but haven't had much response.
Last week I noticed a small 'hole' or sore behind my Angel's eye. I have been treating the tank with Melafix ever since, however it doesn't seem to be having any effect.
The sore has become larger and redder, and although it doesn't seem to be bothering it at all (still eating, still swimming about as normal) I'm concerned that it might become infected or become fatal for my poor fishy!
Here is a pic of what it was like before:

And how it stands now:

My water levels are fine, and I have been doing 50% changes weekly to ensure I am keeping the water as clean as possible.
The only other treatments I have to hand are Melafix, Pimafix or King British Disease Clear.
Any ideas? I'm really worried =[

Ok, first, do you have any gouramis or other air breathing fish? Because the tea tree oil in the melafix and pimafix can injure their labyrinth organs and cause them to drown!

What is he fed? He may have Hole in the Head, but I doubt it...
Try treating the water with StressCoat+, the aloe vera works wonders on fish wounds
Are their any salt sensitive fish or plants? If not, try using some aquarium salt.

If it gets any worse, you may need to isolate him in a hospital tank and treat with antibiotics.

Best of luck! :good:

No, don't have any air breathers so I'm ok there!
Yeah another person said hole in the head but I have researched it and my Angel just doesn't seem to have any of the other symptoms do I doubted it, plus it looks different.
Fed a range of things, frozen brine shrimp, frozen bloodworm, flake, frozen daphnia. I only feed every other day. Should I feed everyday?
Yeah I use Stress Coat as my dechlorinator so I could put more in if you think it would help? Shall I do that alongside the melafix which also has aloe Vera?
Anything else you think? And do you actually think it is a he or just saying that? I only ask cus I would love to know what sex it is!!!

Are other fish in the tank pecking the angel fish.

Ulcers.
They can be pink, or red in colour, but usually have a white circling of dead skin around the edges.
Also the ulcer can unlcerate the skin away forming a hole.

I would isolate the sick fish and use an internal bacteria med that threats ulcers.

Tank size.
Stocking.
Water stats, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Abit of information on Ulcers.

Ulcer Disease

Symptoms:

Fishes presenting with large red open lesions, ulcers or sores on the body have ulcer disease. Other symptoms may also include eroding flesh, reddening at the base of the fins and vent, and the fish may also experience a loss of appetite and darkening of color.

Cause:

Internal bacterial infection caused by Aeromonas and Pseudomonas. This disease is most often seen in fish that have been kept under poor conditions or recently imported.

Treatment:

Check your water conditions to ensure that they are within the optimal ranges for the type of fish you are keeping. If not, perform an immediate water change. Ulcer Disease is highly contagious, therefore the entire tank and all fish, even those not yet showing symptoms, should be treated. Treatment with Kanacyn, Furacyn, or Nitrofura-G are recommended.

Everything else in the tank is fine. I haven't noticed any aggressive behaviour towards the Angel and it is quite clear s/he is top dog.

It's a 125 litre tank with 2 GBR's, 5 Platys, 7 Harlequin Rasboras, 8 Neons, 6 Corydoras and 5 Oto's.
The rams are a bit aggressive amongst themselves so wether the Angel hasn't been quick enough to get out the way on one occasion I don't know.

My water stats are always closely watched and are fine, the water is oxygenated and kept at a temperature of 26 degrees.

As I say the angel hasn't been behaving differently at all, and doesnt seem bothered by this but I am just concerned. I performed a 50% water change this evening to ensure the water is being kept as clean as possible to avoid further infection.

Your tank looks overstocked to me.
Plenty of gravel vacs as plecs are massive waste producers.

I don't have a Plec. I have otocinclus. And I have sand so I use a siphon to suck up the poop everytime I do a water change.
