Soo Angry|!

i dont have green terrors, but this is what wilder told me to do with ick.. 30degrees, increase aereation (sp?) and if poss add some salt to the water

BUT LIKE I SAY THIS MAY NOT BE THE CORRECT WAY TO GO :) with these fish, and if the spots are still there you can do a nother round after running carbon etc

shelagh xxxx

Just upping the temperature increases the life cycle of the pathogen. If you don't then add some form of treatment (such as salt) then you just accelerate the infestation and eventual death of fish susceptible to ich.

thanks for the advice. yes they are terrors beautiful ones very dominate both of them., something else unusuall is happening all the un eaten food and around some things this wired clear / whitish slime is growing could that be the problem

you still haven't told us the water parameters if you know them?

This is a very likely reason why the fish are suffering especially given how you describe, "all the uneaten food" and the slime

shouldn't be uneaten food left lying around, it's most likely decomposing in the tank and mucking up the water which will be why the fish got ich and why you can't shift it.

as said above, can you give us water stats. also read the link in my sig on tank maintenance and make sure you are doing it right.

Treatment of ich can be done with nothing more than salt andhigh temperatures. A temperature at or above 31C will kill ich. The salt will also control ich and a high temperature will speed up the cycle until it gets high enough to kill the parasite. High temperature with salt means speeding up the parasite's life cycle and exposing it to enough salt to kill it. The amount of salt would be at least 1 tsp per gallon for sensitive fish and no more than 3 tsp per gallon for typical freshwater fish. If you hold these conditions for at least a week after the fish look healthy, the ich in the tank will be destroyed. For a more in depth discussion see the ich subject in my signature.

There are strains reported that can survive this temperature, which is why heat and treatment is the best option. 31C will probably cure most cases of ich, but it is not as certain as the temp and a treatment.
