i am getting SOOO angry.. i have a pair of green terrors breeding regulary.. white spot comes in and dispite my best efforts the male dies.. after fighting the bug for 2Weeks of constant medication and no carbon filter with higher temp.. the bug is still lingering around on the fins of the female and on a alge eater.. no matter how hard i try it WONT go away.. please help you could understand about the pain off losing your prize fish for no good reason

we had this a few weeks ago we just couldn't shift it we endeed up with king bristish ws3 as nothing else would shift it but we have heard about a treatment in Germany that contains no copper and works on the fish.

Sorry it sucks we lost 3 multies and some rummy nose tetra

using WS3 with a temp of 28C and the tank kept in the dark, should easily be enough to cure whitespot as long as something isn't stressing out the fish, i.e. an aggressive fish, poor water conditions etc.

im using aqua master rapid white spot remedy the actives are 37mg/ml formaldehyde 0.32mg/ml malachite green im in australia in a remote area. for those who dont know what thats like it means i drive to my neighbours and roos are common target practice. so as you could image my local fish shop is appauling im doing what i can but the frustration is unbareable these are beautiful young terrors please help... water temp is 28 degree cel

again sorry but what creates white spot i no more then my lfs so there no one but the internet for real answers. ill put it this way if i was a fish id be happy in there really happen in there in fact sometimes i get a little jelous lol

ok, sorry sometimes forget that everyone doesn't live in the UK

do you know the water parameters for the tank?
have you took the carbon out of the filter?
whats the stocking for the tank? has every fish got whitespot or just a selected few?
can you increase aeration in the tank?

whitespot is a parasite found in the water that attacks the fish when it is not 100% well or is being stressed by something

carbon is out, only some fish have it and i cant understand why there is stress there is plenty of room, i mean only three juvi fish in a 120 ltr tank lots of room just dont get it how do they get white spot..

two green terrors. ( an angry fish yet good with a mate ) although thanks to the death of the females orginal mate, the new couple seem to be getting on ok a little terrortorial battles which would be expected with agresive cichlids but nothing over the top.

the other fish is a chinese alge eater which i absolutely hate but dosent seem to be making a problem i think its intimidated by all the fighting and it dose have white spots

I have had white spot several times, each time after adding new fish. The way I got rid of it was to slowly raise temp to 32 degrees at the same time as using the white spot med. I am not entirely sure of the reason, well cannot remember, its either to speed up the cycle so that the parasite is free swimming and then the meds can kill them or that the parasite cannot live in temps this high.

I have never once lost a fish this way, if considering doing this then make sure you increase aeration as the high temp lowers the amount of oxygen in the tank.

Cheers
Dave

what filtration do you have and how often do you do water changes?
If there is no real aggression then your problem is likley to lie in the water quality.

how big are the fish? 120litres isn't really a lot for even just 1 GT

the fish are only an ich at the moment a new home is awaiting them. i know this sounds wired but 2, 300 watt heater dosnt get the heat above 28 i cant get the water any hotter ive cheaked the thermometor no problem there, i know its not enough room but there only young but like i said they breed regualry so im am confused i thought these fish didht sexually maturue untill 4 inch

are you sure they are Green Terrors?
and a single 150w would be plentiful for a 120litre tank?

2 weeks is pretty much the entire life cycle of the ich pathogen. I would not get too worried about seeing whitespot until you have been treating for at least 3 weeks.

To prevent repetative cycles of white spot, as some are finding, make sure you treat for at least two weeks after the last spot is seen.

thanks for the advice. yes they are terrors beautiful ones very dominate both of them., something else unusuall is happening all the un eaten food and around some things this wired clear / whitish slime is growing could that be the problem

you still haven't told us the water parameters if you know them?

This is a very likely reason why the fish are suffering especially given how you describe, "all the uneaten food" and the slime
