Bettas do not get on well with many other fish however. So if you do set your heart on one, build tank companions around it.

PS. Tank you suggested above is only 14 US gallons (12 UK gallons). A bit small to be honest. I know ive only got a 10 UK gallon tank but I wish i'd got a 20 - 30 odd gallon tank now.

so can u get a cold water shrimp because i thought they were only fresh water?

and would one shrimp be ok with a couple of minnows? (one minnow got stuck behind the filter I've put a bit of foam behind it now so they shouldnt do it again)

Do you mean you thought shrimp were only tropical? There are varieties of coldwater shrimp, I believe ghost shrimp are coldwater. I always liked having shrimp, they're very active and I love to watch them gathering their food.

Ok, i've just come back from the pet shop. They didnt have and shrimps so i got a golden sucking loach instead.
My tank temp. is currently 75f and this loach can stand 72f to 82f.l

Is it ok for my tank?
