I've just done a water change on my QT tank which is undergoing a mini cycle with my 5 harleys in quaratine......after the water change they have all started hanging just below the surface of the water........do I need to do another water change, is it something in the water??

have just taken new ammonia and nitrite readings:

ammonia: 0.25
nitrite: 0

should I do another water change and see?

Yes try doing a 25% change :)

I'll do that :) cheers steady....seems the best idea to me too, just worried incase something odd got into the water, but i also did a change on my main tank and my betta and pitbull pleco are fine....weird!

i've done that, they're still swimming under the surface, to be honest it never looked like they were gasping....but just found the flow on the filter in there was rubbish, fiddled with it a bit and it's working fine again now....so I assume if it was an oxygen thing hopefully it will be soon sorted once the filter's pumped it all round properly for a bit!

Hope there ok :good:
still doing it, though they do it for a bit then go down the bottom, not sure if they all do it because one starts, they are very sheep like...lol...but like I said they don't appear to be gasping or struggling for air with their gills.....weird!

Are they just like swimming up in to the current of the filter?

just swimming under the waters surface with heads towards the top, look like their skimming....just went in and 3 were at the top the other 2 were swimming round the bottom then made their way towards the top......I don't get it :S I know fish do it for air but as I said they're not gasping or breathing abnormally, they are fine in colouring and ate earlier today before water change

No rapid drop in temperature or anything?

*double checks*

nope still at 24 degrees C, there were only two when I walked in then, then the others went up after a bit....do you think if the filter was funny for a bit it might take a little while for the water to get fully airated again? They don't seem to be up there as constantly now....

Not really no, im sure they will be fine, just keep a eye on them over the next 48 hours to make sure nothing starts to appear bad :)

Ok, still doing it....lol....maybe I'll PM wilder for when she's on later, see what she thinks, I'd be more concerned if they were breathing heavy or gasping.....they are such odd fish my harlequins! :fun:

actually one is not looking so good, it's gone to bottom of tank and looks like it's not making much effort to swim, it's not shoaling but then the others are a bit preoccupied at top of the tank.....#### is going on :S
