He has gone quite pale today  and he seems to be having trouble breathing and is staying around the surface. I have just done a 50% wc instead of the 20% every other day I have been doing for the last couple of days. I have added a DIY air diffuser to the filter to add some extra air in the tank. I have also added some melafix as the tiny bit of bone left sticking out has a couple of "hairs" on it on the one fin, the other has completely healed.

I am hoping I am worrying over nothing and its just he has had a large breakfast (whole prawn cut up into little bits) and he has tummy ach

sh1t. That's awful news.

I'd recommend a big WC (which you've done), stop feeding and sit tight and see what happens.

Could just be the fishy version of indigestion, but I seem to remember that you said he ate peas well, so his food should be passing through him well enough with that roughage.

I suppose it's possible that you've had a small ammonia spike, due to the filter not quite responding quick enough to the increased feedings that the tank has been happening. But, even then, oscars are pretty hardy and I expect it would take pretty bad water to cause one to behave as you have described. Have you measured the water stats ?

He has had peas, and he is not constipated have seen that  but doing the wc his poop does smell!! I couldnt smell anything in the tank just in the bucket as I had vacced it all out and it smells awful!!!, going to go back to daily wc. He is still hanging around the filter with the extra air. The tank he was in at the shop was being blasted with lots of air, so much bubbles were sticking to his body.

I didnt check the water stats just did a wc.

Could have an internal bacteria problem if it smells that bad, run of a course of meds maybe?

His colour is back and he is more active again now, no longer hanging around the filter, I didnt give him any food lunchtime. I will see if he "asks" for anything later. I am starting to wonder if he had some sort of reaction to the prawn? or just didnt like it  He was fine this morning it came on quite quick about 1/2 hour after I fed him the prawn.

Going to run an antibac med just in case :good:

mine go's totally pale from time to time but go's back to its good colouring not to long aftter. Might just be stressed, when i moved mine it was pale for a few days.
Be carefull with the meds, like they say dont try and fix it if nothing is wrong.

if he is picking up i would resist the urge to use meds. "shotgun" treatment can do more harm than good sometimes imo

Huge relief, he seems back to normal again, he has been the loo again at it was white, it looked like the prawn he had for breakfast virtually undigested? never seen anything like it before. As soon as he did it he started begging for food so he had 4 pellets. I think I am going to leave giving him prawn again for a few weeks.

with oscars being such greedy buggers perhaps he just wolfed it down too quick and had indigestion  they are after all kind of like a piscine waste disposal unit!

Haha the Shrimo made him sick he got pale because he wanted to throw up.

Honestly it could have been the shrimp was too much for him or did not sit well. Glad to hear he's better.

Pleased to report Chops is back to normal completely this morning, he has had bloodworm for breakfast, but I tipped it all into the plastic plant to he has to find it bit by bit it will keep him occupied for an hour or so  and at least he cant gulp it all down in one go. I was so scared I was going to loose him yesterday!! Cant believe I had a fish with belly ache

Happy to hear he is back to normal!!!

I really enjoy hearing about this naughty oscar! He is just like a naughty child who ate too many sweets lol

I just love how the forum has adopted him haha :D He is a character though :)
