Someone Please Help, My Fish Went Mad And Died!

Okay, so I've been doing regular water changes make sure ammonia is at zero. Cleaned the powerhead, and yet again another fatality today. :grr:

My male platy has done exactly what my female did on monday, seemed to fit, shoot up to the surface and fall to the bottom gasping. I thought my other platy died from gorging itself on my tetras, but it seems to be something else.

The fish don't show any symptoms until a few hours before they die, their is no visible signs, they eat, swim, don't really do anything out of the ordinary. So I went out and bought some Liquisil, as that is the only stuff my local pet shop sells (it doesn't thrive in fish advice, more horsey!!) I can't loose anymore fish so I have used tonight. I have already tried aquarium salt and lost this one.

Any ideas what is causing these deaths??

ps Whilst staring at my tank tonight I have noticed one of my neons has a fat tummy, looks like it's eaten some balls, all bobbly inside?? Could this be the cause?? Pregnant?? I have no idea it just doesn't look as streamline as the others.

Do you mean that it looks like there bubbles beneath the tummy area.

Yeah, underneath the skin not on the outside?

Do you know what it is??

No i doubt its gas bubble disease.
Sounds like tumours which tetras are prone to get and could even be sporozoan cysts. I would euthenise the neon.
As for the deaths. Which fish are the newcomers?

I've noticed tonight that more of the tetras are showing signs of this bobbling in their tummys and they seems to be swimming at a weird angle, diagonally, head facing downwards?? What's that all about?? :/

I think it could be them that have infected my tank with something as I bought them from a different LFS, should have stuck to who I normally get them from!! :grr:

I introduced my neons and a couple of weeks later 5 harlequins and 3 corys, no more since, and no more to be added til after xmas!!

I have never had to euthenise a fish so not really sure what to do, if I had to do it!! :(

Not sure if this is applicable on this forum or whether I should start another, but I have noticed that my PH has been fluctuating between 8 and 8.2 this wouldn't be a factor would it?? And also, in adding the new fish I was expecting a little ammonia, to which I have been doing the water changes, but I'm not seeing any NitrIte increases, why would this be, any ideas? I have done the fishless cycle and gone through the spikes etc before putting my fish in, but not sure why it's not changing.
