Some More Breeding Questions. ^^;

3 days later fry should be free swimming, it is now time to remove the male or he will eat them.

i thought the dad stayed with the babies as they fall away from the nest and he puts them back??

someone else on TFF bred some bettas, but took the dad out too early according to other members

And that would be me, its ok you can name and shame, oops I've done it myself :lol:

Only reason why the male was taken out early was a combination of errors by myself.

1, Smegging panicked, water too high, and too many plants for the father to find the little beggers in, when they swam off.

2, Not his and her's fault but, it was thier first go too............ but I can't call that my error. He did fantasticaly well for his first time and so did the female.

3, Work comitments, could not be there 24/7 at the time they hatched.

And hopfully people who read my thread, gain a bit more insight to it, and learn from my mistakes.

Must add note: I'm note offened by anyone if they quote my name, I'm a novice :p

Yes the dad stays with the fry for three days after they hatch and then he is removed, keeping him with the fry longer than three days can be risky as he may see them as food once they begin to swim horizontally rather than vertically, they are usually no longer dependent on him at this stage so that is correct :good:

The dad if he wants to care for the fry does stay and look after them, sometimes he'll eat his fry. Depends on the dad.

i didnt name and shame lol :eek:

i was nice!, but i remembered people telling you that the father should have stayed a little longer thats all. to me the statement read differently, and i thought it contradicted what was being said.

obviously its just me having a very dense day :rolleyes:

Yes I knew that the dad should have stayed in longer, but if he'd have eaten all the fry when I was at work. Then I would Have had none.

You're not having a dense day, it's people jumping in and saying you should do this and you should do that. It's not that simple sometimes the rules arn't set in stone. You have to adapt to whats going on.

couldnt have said it better myself batman!!

my mom wants me to breed my bettas but i dunno where i'd put them all lol :crazy:

Sell all your fish and use all the tanks. :lol: Actually, if I *did* breed bettas (I'm out of money now, sooooo.... Next summer!!!! >:D Unfortunately, by then Libra & Aqua will be too old to breed, but.... Hmm, I'll find another Betta. Big Al's has lots of younger Bettas (Libra's fins are filling out quite nicely, so he *WAS* younger when I got him) for sale, and PetSmart's females hopefully are somewhat younger, or, I'll just get some Bettas from someone at the fish club, so....! :D ), I'd just probably have, like, a bunch of the fry in 1-and-2-gallon bowls. ^^; That is when they are younger; as they got older, I could probably have a bunch of the males in those bowls, and the females just together, like, all in one tank.... :p

Oh, well; that doesn't matter. ^^; If I bred Bettas, I'd just take the female out after a few eggs were laid (like, 30, or so).... that's all! ^^; :D

Just remember that vail tail is not really worth breeding unless you ended up with over 600 and could sell them all, they only go for .50 to 1 at lfs and at auctions. If you have stuff like sunsets or dragon species or even the halfmoons its well worth it :)

I would think so, I just mainly threw some questions out there, and my experience on them. I find experience is alot better than something that was typed out on someones website. The main hunch seems to be this is how you breed bettas now please buy a betta from me. I don't believe in this type of marketing. Thats just my preference. The big speal on how to breed bettas I actually took the time to read what you put down many things to keep in mind yes but its not set in black nor white.

Good example would be the female question I asked, I have had breeds that went bad because the male just eats the eggs and had no choice but to try leaving just the female in to take care of the eggs, and guess what 80% of the time it worked(This is part of the sometimes rules arn't set in stone). I have also come across letting the female out every thing seems okay and then boom she is a total wreck i mean fins damaged to meet the ban wagon(This is also a rule not set in stone). I have had to seperate and stop breedings because of the male all of a sudden turning violent and not even spawn!(This is something not set in stone) My Questions where just put out there as a flag to guide the person not tell them what to do. Everyone has there own methods even top breeders breed all different. I personally think its research and then to the experiment. The research being theory helps the practical being what ends up as practice or experiement. You nailed my question I asked about breeding a vail with a crown I wasn't sure what they made as I have never bred a vail, always been crowntail and up on the line and wasn't even sure how the female looks compared to a delta or a halfmoon female. I got the same thing a copy and paste from a website telling me how I should breed my bettas. The first thing I seen was half the information being misleading. My daughter at the age of 3 bred bettas and sold them to the local fish store. Mind you she had help from daddy but she did most the work her self at the age of 3. Guess what she raised them very very well. I am guessing this person will have help from mommy, this wouldn't be a concern the only concern would be the research.

I have a very open mind when it comes to breeding them, but for some things I close that mind(So certain areas will remain closed, IE always do a cycle of a tank is set in stone)

Well, yeah; if you mean me, my Mom would be helping me through it. :lol: The Betta breeding would take place in my bedroom, I'd be the one there practically day and night (well except for when I'm in school, but I'm on my computer, just across the room, all the rest of the time, sooooo, yeah; I wouldn't mind supervising a bit more and I could even bring over my chair and laptop and sit and watch the Bettas while typing and stuff :) ), but yeah, I agree, because, hmm.... let's see.... around twice or maybe even 3 times now I have asked breeding questions & just gotten a copy & paste from a website telling me how to breed them. Sorry person, but it's 'chimney glass' not chimney, and I really think you should clarify that. :lol:

I appreciate most of this advice that you (tsi), and other people, give me, but really, I think some of this is just a *bit* extensive. I have a book focusing solely on Bettas and it's like from.... 2005, I believe.... *checks* Urrgh. I can't find it. -.-; Well, anyways; it's probably at my school somewhere. ^^;

Well, anyways; I'll wrap up now. ^^; >8D

Sorry, but i find that really rude, you asked for advice and i gave you it. Its up to you if you take it or not.
Erm.."Extensive", have you heard of Extensive research?

This is an extract from my website, a quick guide, please make sure you do your research fully.

Yeh, and i do remember writing that...

Really? I said all that? I can't even remember typing that post out, tbh. Sorry, but it's true. :lol: you're just really snappy cause you're still upset that your bettas died, aren't you. They were lovely fish & I'm sure you'll miss them terribly. :(

Haha, I dunno if this was said in your quick guide, but.... How can you hold up the males bubble nest? It keeps being destroyed by air being circulated around the room. :/
