Hi all! I want to know some information about some live foods I might be able to grow without buying starter organisms. (ie Brine Shrimp eggs, Microworms) I have a lot of small worms and seed shrimp, I believe in my shrimp tank. Might I be able to take out a few with syringe or some means and cultivate them? If so, how? For the worms, could I do something like Microworm culture with oatmeal?

Also, do you think my guppies and future fry would like/or even eat them? Could I feed them to my other fish too? (Tetras, betta)

You could cultivate infusoria quite easily. Check out Starting an infusoria culture on google, its quite easy!

Depending on where you are, a bucket (or water butt) in the garden can accumulate a fairly large quantity of mosquito larvae now the sun is starting to shine.

Daphnia and cyclops cultures can be easily collected, as can fruit flies. Bigger fish like earthworms if you're confident about where they're being collected from.

Hmm. How would I collect daphina without collecting other bad larvae and worms?

I might try the infusoria; but it seems too small of a food for my 2 month old guppies. I think it appeals to me b/c you dont need starter organisms..

Mosquito larvae is the easiest depending on the climate. Or white worms u can usually find starters at fish stores or under bricks n logs in the yard.i used to think white worms were just think weak roots when i was a kid lol
