Hi, I have always thought I'd bought a "blue" convict, but have just seen pics of Honduran Red Points I am now confused.

The fish in question is this one (more pics linked in my sig):

And the post which made me think about him being a blue convict are here (second pic in): http://www.fishforum...erum-species-id

So, what do you think he is?

Edit: just realised they're the same thing :) SOLVED

Honduran Red Points are really nice fish, We have close to 100 fry of their's. They are excellent parents also... Actually they are amazing parents to protect the fry against all the bad #16##### fish we have lol.

I have current 4 male cichlids of different species and don't intend on breeding as I want the variety...but with a not yet arrived 5ft tank maybe I can...if what you say is anything to go by. You have a busy tank and if a pair of these can guard their eggs with all those hungry mouths around then it seems possible to have both worlds :)

We recently transfered a few fish to our 3ft tank, Mostly our livebearers so the tank isn't overstocked and added 2 more chiclid's into it, Called 'Blue eyed cichlids' They was a breeding pair in the shop and we _HAD_ a breeding pair of honduran's, Once we added the blue eyed's the male honduran picked the female blue eyed and now they have free swimming fry.

2 video's of when they was breeding last time, A bit upset the hondruan's didnt stay together as the blue eyed looks very evil! lol

Still amazed at how good of parents the hondurans were, You can see that the Hondruans basically held control of more than half the tank and took their fry around the tank and all the fish would go to the other side, We decided to take the fry out after 3 weeks though as we got worried about the other fish with the stress.

Cool stuff, I love how they zip off and back one at a time :)

Once my fish get their new spacious home I can see myself going in search of a few females for a couple of them, maybe the Honduran and the Geo...it's that or I add more single males of other species, e.g. a Rotkeil Sev and I quite like the yellow convicts if they can be found...one way or the other I have to make my mind up which way I'm going, any more unique individuals and I think I'd be asking for trouble if there was a breeding pair...? Too many noses sniffing about for eggs and fry.
