I'm starting another planted only tank. :S

I'm going to use flourite as usual, but I was wondering about soils.
I read here somewhere about schultz aquatic soil being used.
I wanted to try using soil of some kind as a bottom layer to be covered by the flourite.

My questions are:

Really, will the soil make much of a difference in the long term?
Can I use other types of soil? A peat moss, organic formula? Compost type?

Ì believe Schultz aquatic soil is very light weight and will definatly need gravel or flourite on top, i think over time it weighs itself down a bit better.

I dont think its spefically made for aquarium use, maybe ponds or something like that, i do know a year or so ago a lot of people had problems with this soil in aquariums, it gave them very high phosphate readings and this in turn messed with other readings KH etc.

But i do know a lot of people use this in aquariums with no problems, it might be an idea to do some tests before you auctually put it in the tank.

And i also know its cheap.

Hmmmm, the dreaded phosphate.

I decided lastnight while I was whipping around on the forklift at work I wasnt going to use the soil.
Here's why.
It'll end up mixing with the flourite, that sucks, didnt think of that at first.
Flourite will be plenty good enough. :D
