well i got 50 kg of gravel bought it home washed it for ages wih the shower. put it in my tank thinking it was clean now start to fill tank and loads of sand and crud comes out of gravel. having to take water and gravel out wash it yet more still and put it all back. grrrrrr stressed lol

have you got a hose pipe mark?? if so fill the tank half way swish the gravel, then turn the hose back on then rip of the end at the tap so it backflows, stick it in the graden to drain,
if you sure you gave it a good wash, just let it settle and stick some wool in the filter tha`ll sort it out :)

shelagh xxx

lol good idea got hosepipe out now . lots of water on bathroom floor lol

am doing that at the mo. if i get it to a reasonable level will it eventually settle and clear?

yes it will as long as you get some filter wool in the trays, may take a couple of days tho, but dont worry :)

hmmm not got my filter yet. its an eheim canister which i believe is single chamber. also have been told not to switch filter on til water clears which could prob take 24 hours. now im confused lol

You should not need to wait for the water to clear before you turn on a canister filter. That would be good advice for a HOB but a canister runs the water through the filter before it gets to the impeller. That means the filter should protect the impeller from the rough stuff in the water. A HOB works the other way around. The first thing in a hang on filter is the impeller, then all the filter components. A HOB will destroy the impeller to save the filter media. It's like a TV blowing up to save the fuse.
