Soaking A Large Piece Of Driftwood In A Large Barrel Of Cold Water But

Unless you particulary dont like the look of the tannins in the water, once its been scrubbed in hot water (to make sure there are no nasty things on it) you can put it directly into the tank. The tannins are not harmful to the fish and usually can be removed via normal water changes.

i soaked my bits which were much smaller (by bits i mean wood) in boiling water, but they were smaller than yours
in the end i gave up as i didnt like the brown water and left one bit outside in a bucket of water for about six months, there is hardly any tannin now. di

hot water removes the tannins more it also releases any trapped gases from the wood making it sink quicker. carbon will remove any tannins from the tank if its not the look your after but personally i think it look different and more natural and the fish will love it :good:
