Hi, are any people on here who can recommend shops in/near Norwich that sells quality fish (guppies/livebearers preferred), we have returned to fishkeeping after a few years away and checking out stores in the Norwich area, are finding it quite difficult to spend money. we've set up a 40" livebearer tank and have a few guppies / platties and swordtails all doing nicely with all waters where they should be.. but when trying to buy a couple of more pairs/trios of fancy guppies at Maidenhead Aquatics Norcutts Norwich on 3 occasions now over the last 2 months have not been able too.. the staff seem far to interested in their own conversations to deal with customers. today they lost out as along with the fish, i needed declorinator, food and filter media, I find it hard to believe that companies can still trade with such a bad Attitude, the guy in the shop was talking to another customer but all i needed was eye contact and a "i'll be with you shortly" rather than averting any eye contact, i was going to complain to Maidenhead directly but there is no email address on their website and i think they are separate to Notcutts where their Norwich shop is situated.
Sorry for the whinge on my first post, but i work in customer services and really hate it when things are not done correctly, it's just so easy to do it right...

Same sort of story happened to me in one of my LFS stroke garden centre, was about to buy a fluval roma 240 up until the salesman went to serve someone else and never came back. I told him if he had bothered to come back he would have had another sale, I havn't been back since.

Keith.

Hi there.

Yes, def don't go back to Maidenhead at Notcutts, the staff are hopeless (always the same 2 guys) and were very reluctant to take guppy fry from me!! There are a few other good fish shops around though. There is one in Highway Garden Centre that has a nice selction. Go to Swallows Aquatics but it's a bit of drive from Norwich (probably about 20-30 mins), and there is also one at Taverham Nursery - nice and helpful staff there. Hope that helps.

Swallows is worththe drive, its near snetterton. you may have been past before and noticed a sign for an english whiskey distillery - its next door to the fish shop :hyper: :hyper:

Yea thats what i thought Maidenhead will get a wide berth from me from now on.they obviously dont need my money eh.. I've not been over swallow in years, i'd forgot about them they used to have some unusal stuff, do they still stock the wierd n wonderfull lol
we bought the tank from Highway, Chap called Mark was very helpfull and will diff have to give him another visit, and We went to taverham on a saturday...big mistake lol..
anyway was good to find out it wasn't just me at notcutts, pity coz when they were self owned / run they had quite a good selection and friendly staff, but then that was a few years back,

I think the selection at Notcutts is naff anyway. Everytime I have been they've had fancy guppies, but then the other selections are poorly stocked/thought out. Yeah, Taverham is far too busy on weekends, especially leading up to Christmas, got my tree from there the other week lol.
Def take another visit to Highway & Swallows. Haven't been to Swallows in a while, but i remember the prices being on the higher side (maybe it's just me) but they have a great selection of any/every type of fish you could want. Same for Highways really, never seen a dead fish there.
There are plenty of Pets at Home around as well, but whether you want to buy fish from there or not depends upon your opinion of them lol!
