hey guys!

so as u can see i got a snowflake eel the other day and he's getting on well! just something ive noticed tonight after lights out. he seemed to be breathing a bit like slow but constant and i was just wondering if this is normal? could it be a reaction to me lifting the sheet off the glass that usually covers it from front on light?

he did feed tonight so could this be him just digesting the small amount of prawn i fed him?

ive only sorta seen him during the day and its usually like his mouth open wide for a bit then mouth closed for a while etc hehe so yea just hoping for some behavioural help ^_^. i know they like eating moluscs and a varied diet of prawns and small crabs etc so far im just feeding prawns and also know water quality is a must and yeah.! hope yous can help

from what i've seen, eels tend to open and close their mouths a lot, it's totally normal to my knowledge.

yeah i guess it might just be his mal digesting. i fed him a whole prawn. maybe to much i duno but he gets fed every 3 days! just used to seeing him take a couple of big breaths with his mouth open then having it closed for a while

Although I've never seen a snowflake in the wild, every other type of eel I've ever seen has exhibited this open mouthed breathing behavior. If there's no other signs of distress, I'd say it's normal.

Now, where's the pics? :p

My G Tiles morays did that and it looks more animated when they brethe as its one big motion out of the little pipe behind the ears where they seem to exhale from
