snakehead 1.jpgWhat Snakeheads Are These??

Hmm very hard to be certain with that picture, sorry,
I mean it could be a parachanna obscura looking at that shot.

All i can personally say is try to get a very close up side shot of the guy, try adding as many plants either real or fake as possible, channa as a rule love planted tanks, what other fish are you keeping it with?
Looks quite stressed at present,
Also what is current temp in tank?

I can't find anything that looks like it soo confused, that is my mates one I have another pic I need to put up of mine as the fish shop told me it was a royal blue snakehead but I can't find the scientific name, sorry about the bad picture quality

Im just going through some ideas

You Having trouble uploading pics?
also getting a good picture, have you got a flash?

His tank is at around 22degrees I think and he has a common pleco and dragon goby in there with it, yh I don't have a decent digital camera just taking pictures from my phone, there hard to get good pictures of :( but it looks quite a lot like the first picture you posted

Yupp the guy said he didn't know anything about them apparently that's what my mate said all he knew was they grow to around 10 inchs :S

Ok, well get some better side shots<not being rude>>

Also try googling these

Channa stewartii

Channa asiatica

Channa aurantimaculata

Channa marulioides

Channa melasoma

Channa ornatipinnis

channa pulchra

Channa sp. "Asia Blue

Channa sp. "Galaxy Blue"

Yh no offense taken there pretty bad pics, ill try get a better one for you and then maby u can tell me for sure, my internet is playing up aswell which doesn't help so I'm using my blackberry atm, thanks for the help you seem to know a lot about snakeheads you have kept many species I take it?? There probably my favourite fish :) and I still have quite a lot to learn about them, are they all subtropical??

Yes ive kept a fair few, been out the game a while, but got a new 5/2/2 coming, so watch this space, going for something a little different this time, however, got more tanks in reserve, im going to look again for parachanna obscura and channa pleurophthalma,my favourite of the bigger species ive kept, No not all Channa are Sub tropical, but most of the "Dwarf channa" are Sub tropical, with a few exceptions,,
People mis understand channa, as most like to be kept in well planted tanks, best kept in Species only, not because there so aggressive, actually the other way around,,

One thing you will NEED to know, Channa are Escape Artists, ensure any small gap is well covered, seriously, even if you think nothings getting out that hole, because they will..lol

Fair enough sounds good be sure to keep me posted, I was looking at getting a larger one but don't want a snakehead that goin to grow to huge sizes are there any that get to around 30cm?? Yh I have quite a large hole at the back of my tank where the external filter tubes are I cover the lid with a towel so the holes are covered will this work?? Otherwise what can I do??

Lol I might just do the same thing, think I'm just goin to silicon a bendy piece of plastic over them for a more permanent solution :) I had a reed fish before and it escaped within 4days of me having it unfortunatly it didn't survive purely because the local fish shop didn't explain to me cover up holes ect otherwise I would still have it :(

Yup, looks like some form of Gachua to me, though it is a shot in the dark from the photo.

As Nelly said, try get a good close up side shot when it has settled a bit.

100% not "Golden Spotted" (Aurantimaculata) I have just posted a picture of one for you in your other thread in the predatory fish section.

Just found out what species it is from an expert at my lfs he said its a channa bankanensis but didn't mention sizes or water temp?? Any ideas
