Hello

I have a major snail problem (apple not the black ones that come in on plants). So long story short I need a fish that eats snails (or a way to get all of them out without having to drain the tank).
I thought about clown loach but I only have a 60l and I know they get big- plus I only want them for a short period AND they would upset my RTB shark.
Assasin snails are expensive and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas?

How do get an apple snail invation the eggs are avove the water line and pink lol?

Any way apples grow fast you can pick them by hand and they babys wont be ready to breed for months so o chnace of more

I have two assassin snails which I have had for around one year and no longer need. You can have them if you want them?

I'm only at home (where the tank is) at weekends, the eggs have gone unnoticed and hatched. There are too many to deal with i.e keep in a seperate tank until ready to sell- as i already have about 30 from another hatching.

you could also bait them with lettuce, zucchini or cucumber. Drop it in at night and your veggies will be covered with snails in the morning and you just scoop them out.

Clowns wouldn't work....they need to be in groups of 5 or more. But, it sounds like you already know that.

Thanks, I tried the lettuce...I think the snails knew cos they didn't go near it, and the RTS claimed the cucumber as his and nothing else even got a look in :) Clown loach are lovely but like I said I never planned to have them when I first set my tank up and it would be unfair on them, I didn't know they had to be in groups of 5 tho :) why is this?

Its ok you can just have them. It sounds like they will be going to a good home so I am happy. They did their job for me and would probably appreciate another snack lol and plus I can not keep them in my large tank as my Cichlids would probably think of them of food. I can post them if you like first class next week. I guess that they will be ok in a plastic test tube in a jiffy bag. PM me you address.

The lettice trick works for pest snails apples are not that fussed over it, baby apples are not that small tbh easy enough to spot and scoop up with a net

Clowns are schooling fish. When kept by themselves they are really nervous and always stressed which can lead to other issues. I have 5 in my 135 gallon and they are really social as a group. :good: They are my absolute favorite fish right now, but really....that changes all the time!!!

Ahh never knew that :) thanks. I don't have a favourite fish type at the moment...although I do like sterbai corys tho (ironically, I don't have any) xx

I've seen some assassin snails in my local Maidenhead Aquatics before a short while back, weren't too expensive if I remember rightly...
