Snails

I have a 'Mystery snail' in my tank with my two platy's and my molly. I was just hoping for some more info on him, some times he's more interesting than the fish - especially because the one platy is so scared of me she always hides when I'm around.

Anyways, snails. I think I read somewhere that 'Mystery snails' are actually apple snails or something along those lines, but that's all i think I remember....What do they eat? (Left over fish hood and fish waste? There isn't anything else in my tank for it to eat really so I'm hoping that is all they need
How long do they live?
Just my newbie-and-curious questions

If it looks like the pic below it's a apple snail and they are poo machines. They need to be feed cucumber,alage waffers, normal flake food etc. No fish or snails eat other fish poo.

But they do eat any of the fish flakes that the fish miss correct? 9And yeah that's him.. well Mine is black but yeah)

Yes they will eat missed food but will starve to death in the long run and shuold be feed direct if you want them to be healthy and achive their max size.

Alot of people seem to have trouble with them, i belive alot of them are under the assumption apples are good alage cleaners and dont need extra food.

So far i have raised approx 1200 apples and got another 200 hatching next week with Zero deaths ....sigh
