I went to the LFS the other day and bought some plants and other bits and bobs and managed to get some free malasian trumpet snails. however the plants i poped in the tank must have had some rams horn snails on, who have set to devouring my plants...

question is how do i get rid of the rams horn and keep the trumpets???

i`ve been trying to keep up squishing the rams horn ones but just cant keep up

thanks any idea whats the best product to use?

the thing is i`m not to keen on having a snail eater in my tank,

My GF has a colony of trumpets in her tank so i think i`ll just nuke the snails in mine once i`ve finished adding plants and then bring some trumpets from her tank

ist there some chemicals you can get to add to the tank that kills all the snails?

most likly, you can give them overdoses of medicine like ich, like apparently if you treat your fish for ich with normal amount of med it will kill the snails off, but id try for a perpose built chemical

I had a bad snail problem and treated the tank with Anti-Snail - trouble was though it didn't actually kill the snails - just made them unconscious and fall onto the gravel and then I had to fish them out. It took ages and although I got out all the visible snails I still had more baby snails appearing later on. I think there were some snails lurking in the filter that I missed. I now sit glued to the tank every night and physically pick them out one by one. I think I'm winning! Possibly?!!

(P.S. I've missed loads of telly though :grr: ).

unfortunately i have sand substrate...

Does adding medication actualy work then??such as melafix or would it be king british ws 3 or whatever??

ive never heard of it as a treatment but i have heard people warn if they want to save them then take them out of a tank in treatemnt, they are too fragial (sp)

hmm any ideas what would be best to do it with???
