Whilst doing a fishless cycle on my tank i was thinking of what to put in it.
It is only 58 litres, so can only manage 1 balck moor but I wanted it to have a friend, so I was thinking of getting a golden apple snail to go in with it.
Has anyone ever kept these and are they easy to keep? Seem to like similar water conditions and eat green veg but there is nothing liek some experience.

Firstly your water won't cycle properly with out 1 or 2 fish in there to help the cycle. Apple snails are fairly easy to keep yea they do also require some greens to feed on which is easy to manage.

Oh sorry I didnt mean I wanted to put fish in whilst it was going through its fishless cycle, I was just thinking about what to get!
Cheers for the advice though,

Yeah but you know you need fish to cycle your tank right ?

I think you need to read the post on fishless cycling. It is not necessary to put fish into a tank to condition the water and it is much nicer for the fish to wait. There is a post on fishless cycling and it works great from what I've read. I am at he end of my cycle and will be getting my first two fish today. I'll let you know how they do.

I have 2 apples in my cycled 29 gal. One is about 1 1/2 inch and the other about 1 in. They do a great job cleaning up my tank. I have never had any type of algae eaters in this tank other than the 2 snails and a handful of ghost shrimp and my tank has been perfectly clean. They are also very entertaining or at least they are to me and my daughter! LOL! and, they are more active after I turn the hood light out.

I am cycling a 55 gallon right now and I plant to get some for that tank too.

PS...big goldfish fan here too but I don't have one at this time!
