So i have a tank that has been established for about 6 years and has a nice but controlled algae growth that my amano shrimp and 1 mystery snail feed on. I have not had a snail problem in all these years. I was doing a water change about 2 days ago and noticed a small long shelled snail in the sand. I took it out as i never want more than 1 snail in the tank. I do remember the dwarf baby tears from about 8 months back had some hitchhiking tiny snails that i removed manually. Is it possible i missed some and they have grown now? The ones that i did remove long ago were very small and this snail that i found is about 1 inch so bigger than what i removed. I decided to keep the snail in a small 1 gallon bucket with some Java moss that i am growing out. So far i noticed that another snail has come along when i only put 1. Then i remember reading that some snails are livebearers. I believe this snail is a Viviparus malleatus. He has the same shell shaped and he was the only snail added to the bucket and already there is a tiny snail running around. I would love to keep this topic posted to see if he truly is a livebearer and is producing more snails.
