So this morning I saw my apple snail eating a harlequin rasbora while it was alive and kicking.

Last week the snail had pinned a new baby angelfish down and was eating its eyes.

Is this deviant behaviour???? Anyone want to fathom a guess as to how a snail catches a live friggin fish????

I have seen him climb to the top of the tank then bungee jump off, so i guess it is possible when he did that he landed on a fish...im just very bewildered to be honest

As much as i like snails, but my advice will be to take him out, open your window, swing really hard and hope it lands in hell where it belongs .
No, but seriously, get rid of that monster before it climbs on you in your sleep.

Any snail that's learned to bungee jump has obviously far too much intelligence for a fish tank! Reckon he's a Jaws of the snail world. Bungee him out of the tank deffo!!

I would be interested to hear if that is common behaviour, or at least someone has seen it b4. But I agree with the others, get rid a-sap!

Did you manage to resuce his victims? Did they suffer any long lasting injuries?

Calm down everyone and get some common sense!

The fish were clearly ill to begin with, hence the snail was actually able to catch them. It's not normal snail behaviour to catch fish, the snail will have just simply come across them while scavenging.

Think about it...how the hell does a snail catch a perfectly healthy active fish? Answer: it doesnt.

The snail goes to the top of the tank to get air, and it is common behaviour for them to 'jump' back down but by no means is it doing this to catch fish.

The snail is harmless and is just doing what it does best, tying to clean the tank of organic waste (dead/dying fish).

I suggest you test all your water parameters and check the fish for signs of disease. Just don't be silly and blame it on the snail.

Well I've learnt something new today, didn't know snails were natural divers!!

Nanirami, you haven't thrown him out of the window have you? I feel really bad now

Couldn't have put it better myself! :good:
