Snails thrive in dirty tanks, it takes more to clean the tank, thats why they take over.
I have Malaysian Trumpet Snails that hitched in with my plants however I read the disclaimer from the private party, I love em. they are neat snails, not only do they only eat algae and all the crap on the bottom that the kuhlis and the cories dont eat then they go into the sand during the day and clean my substrate.
If you have those little brown ones, the best thing to do is bleach the tank.
I use alum to dip all my decor be it live or fake.
