Snail Problem

hi everyone

I have a 250L / 55gal tank and a snail snail problem. they came from plants in LFS and have been multiplying like mad. you could say i have a lour for them... a flat rock covered with green algae (the type that is really hard to get off) which the snails cover daily. I try to clean it off every day and when i look in the bucket there are easily 100's there (all tiny babies, 1ml < 2ml). would Yoyo loaches eat them?

not too shure what type of snail they are but they are transparent with a touch of red and have flat, curly shells... @_.

sounds like baby ramshorns snails, assasin snails or loaches would be good to control the population

i bought 4 java fern the other day and within 10 mins noticed a snail on the glass, you can get a chemical remedy ( snail away by interpet) but im sure youd prefer a natural approach.. loached will get rid of them,as will the assasin snails.. take your pick

let us know what you do and how you get one, they are a real pain

I'd buy some Loaches, maybe Clown? They have a good reputatuion of reducing numbers.
People also put a piece of lettice in there tank, the snails all go to it, then simply remove the lettice. This is not going to get them all though, so the remaining ones will more than likely reproduce again.

Assassin Snails all the way, they cleaned out both my tanks of pest snails

well i live in New Zealand so not sure if there are any assassin snails, i will enquirer at my LFS.

Will Yoyo Loaches work because they are in my current stocking list?

pretty much any botia loach will clear snails.

Clowns grow big, so some of the smaller botia might be better

Ok thanks, i think i will get some Yoyo loaches maybe 4?
