Finally! I have been taking photos of good quality lately (mainly with a macro lens) and so have decided to share a few of the better snail photos. By no means am I a good photographer, and any tips you can give for me to get better photos will be much appreciated.
Anyway, the subjects of the first lot of photos are all currently living in a 12gal tank. The tank is (for the moment) exclusively for Pomacea bridgesii effusa (list of colours in my profile) who potter around looking for food or a suitable dark place to hide. The tank looks like this:

Sorry about the reflections.
This is a cluster of snails on a pea. The colours are:eek:ne Jade, one light body purple and two caramels.

These are a couple of photos of my largest blue.
I timed this one just right to get the radula when he is eating.

This is the largest snail in the tank, a Jade.

This Ivory is very delicate looking.

Woo, at last Max!
Nice pictures, major credit to you.
Really love them snails dont you :fun:
One question.. why the low water level?

Regarding photo tips... wait until its dark, turn the lights off in your room (except the tank lights), turn off the flash and start taking pics. A tripod is best to use. Get a fast shutter speed and an ISO of 400 is ok. See how that goes. :)

Thanks for all the comments guys, very much appriciated.

Fred, the water is low so there is more space for the snails to lay eggs. Different sp. of Pomacea like different amounts of space for laying eggs on; indeed, one sp. needs about 1m high of space otherwise they wont lay eggs. Mine have about 2" and a bit more or plasitic on the hood.
Regarding photos, the ISO was at 400 and (i think) i used the fastest shutter speed. All I need to do is steal Tom's tripod......

Il add some photos of the other snails in different tanks in a few days.

aaah, a cataloge of max's snail collection, planning on adding pics of the other 3 snail tanks?

The ivory looks fantastic.

What other species of snail do you keep?

Tom

Yeh, ive been taking photos of the other tanks and jars today and I just need to get a couple of 'special' characters.
As for the snails I keep, brace yourself:
12x Pomacea bridgesii effusa
3x Pomacea canaliculata
40+ Melanoidis tuberculata (Normal and Mahogany)
40+ Melanoides granifera
10x Nerita sp.
20x Physa sp.
2x Marisa cornuarietis
15x Viviparis sp.
15 (or thereabouts) Lymnaea peregra
5x Asolene spixi
12x Planorbis corneus (Red and Leopard)

Plus about 10 others that im not sure about.
So yeh, thats about 190 snails minimum. No wonder people look at me oddly.

very nice , your keeping there shells lovely

sharon :good:

Thanks Sharon, good to know im doing the snails justice.

I guess they are not working because I moved them into a new album. Ive reposted pics, but they just seem to be a link. Something seems to be wrong with photobucket, the pics I posted earlier are now links and it will only let me post one more picture. All of the others come up as URLs; anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Not that everyone is unhappy about not seeing more snails........

Glad you sorted them, they look lovely. Do you leave the water level a bit lower so that they can lay eggs? Does this encourage egg-laying?

nice collection of snails

instead of using the link when your on your photobucket select these pictures (by marking them with the tick on your home page bit) and then go to bottom and click copy img link then it wil come to new page then copy the img links in one go,then paste ontoyour forum in a new reply or an edit of you 1st post and ur pics will come onto the forum without having to click on the link every time

i think this is right ..
