Hello, I've been considering some snails for my tank. I've had trapdoor and apple, but I want to try giant ramshorn and MTS. I catch these guys wild in lakes and canals. I am just wondering, because I don't want them to reproduce, at what size does the giant ramshorn and MTS become sexually mature?

MTS will reproduce, so they are not an option.

They can reproduce at less than 1cm and reproduce on their own without a partner, basically making clones of themselves. They also bury in the sand, so if yo put one in there, you wont find it again.

Not sure about giant ramshorns, I presume your referring to Marisa cornuarietis, in which case I'm not sure, but they reproduce sexually so if you get a male you wont have a problem, this website shows you how to sex them: http://www.allesumdieschneck.de/html/marisa_cornuarietis_english.html .

Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight. I accidentaly put MTS. Trapdoor/Mystery snails reproduce sexually right? How can I tell if they are males or not of sexual age? Also, I am not sure about the gender difference with the ramshorn. I do not think I am seeing the picture correctly.

Hermaphrodites have both reproductive organs, but two are still required to reproduce, They cannot asexually reproduce.
However, MTS aren't hermaphrodites, males are rare and females can reproduce asexually ;).

Males have a shorter, slightly curled right tentacle (they use it as a sex organ)

Cant really help you with the ramshorn pics, seem fine to me.

I mean, what part are they talking about? Is the shell rounder on the male or something? I am not sure if I am looking into the shell or the side view of it.
And is there any easier way to tell the gender of a trapdoor?

Looking at the operculum, into the hole where the snail comes out the shell.

I'm afraid not, though if you collect a bunch of them, and let them crawl around in a bucket, it shouldn't be hard to tell between them.

three-fingers: The right tentacle as in the breathing apparatus?

The right tentacle as in the longest antennae-thing (technically not an antennae) on the right hand side.

Hi, I have some giant ramshorns, there about 1 1/4 inches at the moment. They are breeding. The eggs are layed in a jelly on plants (fake in my case), however they are really big eggs and you would spot them really easily and be able to remove them before hatching. I would not recomend these snails if you have any plants I have had to move them as they eat plant sooo quickly you wouldn't believe it.
I have just had my first lot of eggs hatch and they are very small to begin with tho. About the size of this o and white, they are so cute.
