Snail In My Tank

Clown loaches are good at eating snails, but like Glod said they're not the best choice for a small(ish) community tank. They get to be 4-6 inches fairly quick and can reach a foot in length. They also are best in groups so you really need about 100gal for them.

Zebra loaches are probably best. They top off at around 4 inches.

Sidthimunki (dwarf chain) are also good at around 2 inches and more active in the day than your average loach.

Botia Kubotai/angelicus are also decent. About 5 inches max and nice looking.

YoYos are probably the next most common in shops. They're about the same size as Kubotai but some individuals are a bit more territorial.

Kuhlis are decent at snail control and excellent for a peaceful community tank. About 3-4 inches max, but eel shaped so their bio-load is relatively small for their length. They generally aren't known for eating snails, but will eat snail eggs.

THing is with snails is that you may only see one for a while but the rest may be hiding and growing. I found one about 3 days ago and then the next day i saw another. I treated the tank the next day with gastromax and about 10 mins later there were about 4-5 trying to make there escape out of the tank - a sure sign i thought that the treatment works. Since day one I have not seen anymore so hopefully the treatment works. I would reccomend it as you can also use it as a plant bath afterwards.

Neat, I think I like Kuhlis the best anyway Iv'e had a few and haven't had one for a while, maybe that's why the snails have taken over. Going to get a Kuhli. Scott

clown loaches grow very very slowly and a foot long clown will take years to grow into that size and they do not need to be with their own kind they will happily become a good community fish with others that are not its own kind
