I went to my lfs and saw in one of there tanks a snail... they werent selling as a shipment because it came with the plants. I asked if it was a snail that can cause infestation but they didnt no (main fish person wasnt there). The snail doesnt have a ramshorn shell, but a pointed shell that was a little over a half an inch. I originally thought of it as an infestation snail but since it was so big i figured not. They said they would give it to me for free since i always go there every week. Can someone help me find out what snail it is and if it can infest my tank.

Sounds like a Malaysian Trumpet Snail. Does the shell look like a twisted ice cream cone? Some snails such as MTS are actually desired by some people. They serve multiple purposes in the tank: keeping algae in check, stirring sand, cleaning leftover food. They can get out of control if you overfeed and they begin to reproduce. You need 2 MTS to mate, unlike some a-sexual snails. I wouldnt worry about it at all if it is a MTS. I for one actually breed them to sell and use in my tanks. Hope that was helpful.

Sorry, but MTS will reproduce on their own. They do mate, but only to change the gene pool. One on its own will live birth and slowly you will have a number of them. However, they are slow growers and cause no harm to a tank.
