Hey guys they just keep getting more and more, how do i stop them??? I've tryed the lettuce didn't do much. What else can i tryed?

a couple clown loaches.i know they will get too big eventually, but trust me,they will clear out the snails.

Hi Sunny'

Most loaches will eat snails. A trio of zebra loach is more suited to your tank than clowns as they only grow 3-4 inches.

Emma

that tank is far too small for clowns!they need a tank of 55gallons at the least and are sensitive to bad water conditions, try some thing else(suggestions????)

Rixy-please dont give people advice to get a fish that will outgrow their tank unless they have plans to upgrade very very soon.thanks

you can get chemicals which will kill snails but they could alter water conditions etc

I have them too and theyre very hard to get rid of

good luck

as stated in my reply germanshepardiver,it does say that clown loaches will get too big eventually.they are slow growers and a couple of 1" to 2" clowns would be ok in that tank for awhile.i am a member of lots of forums and even if people give me advice,i still check it out.

keep an eye out for eggs...strands of gelly on objects hanging off, gellied eggs to the glass...clean all of that out, i use an algae scrubber, but try not to just destroy the gelly and distribute the eggs, try to pick up everything. Also, place an upside down saucer on the floor of your tank with a piece of cucumber under it. Make sure its propped up so snails can crawl under. Leave it overnight, then collect the snails. All of this plus whenever you see a snail thats reachable by you in your tank, crush it. I know it seems harsh, but it's what has to be done. My fish usually devour the dead snails in seconds. these together should rid your tank of snails

The egg clutches I'm familiar with are clear or opaque, if you like, in a gel and laid in a crescent/horseshoe shape.

Why don't you research the loaches and find one that will snack on snails and 3 or four can be happy in your tank.

If your water is good and you're not over crowded, with other than snails :p , you will enjoy them. I love my clowns, and I know emma does. She seems to be well aquainted with the playful fellows and their needs.

I do agree with germanshepard, if your setup is too small, clowns are slow growing but they really can't dance in a small tank and would not be happy long. They grow the first four or so inches pretty fast.

In the mean time cut down the feedings, squash the buggers, pick them out regularly, lure them out regularly. It's a gradual process of consistent application. They won't hurt anything that I'm aware of, may do some good.

Start a snail breeding tank for your coming loaches. :D I let them grow in one tank as treats for my clowns  .

I'm sorry. I hope it isn't the snails. You will find a solution that works for you. And it sounds like you have room for a trio of small loaches, as emma suggested, if that were your choice.

It is really a small annoyance that you will master. No fair giving your problem to someone else. :p

Right what fish do you have?
Give us that and the water conditions and what substrate used
planted?
what filteration used?

give us the fine points
i would say put your fish in a other tank for a while and go get a dwarf puffer no more of the size of your big toe nail not even that. Itl strip the snails clean but you may have to rehom it when the snails have gone as they get nasty.

Exactly what I have for my (no-longer) snail problem. We used to have a problem but moved our 3 Zebra loaches (team Snail-hoover) into our bigger tank.

No problem now........... :D

Emma recommended zebra loaches to increase my loach community dance. Apparantly the zebras and clowns will shoal and school together. :D

The clowns do so well that I have to add snails (not my trumpets though.)

put in a few zebra loaches like 1-2 two they eat snail like mad. and they tend to stay small as well :).
