Hey Guys,

Just thought I would share a successful story about ridding a tank of snails. I know this may seem a little harsh but it is almost an instant death for the tiny little snails, and is probably more humane than just capturing them and throwing them out anyway.

I have a 40L tank which was INFESTED with tiny snails... I mean INFESTED. I have faily fine gravel in the tank too, which had snails all throught it. After trying to capture snails with lettuce in traps etc. to no avail, I came up with an idea to get rid of them:

I scraped all the snails off the walls of the tank, caught my fish and placed them and their water into a bucket, leaving the tank empty.
After this I boiled some water and put about 2L in the bottom of the tank, which has seemed to get rid of all the snails.

Don't forget to wash all your plants and make sure there are no eggs or tiny snails on them either. Simply put your water and fish back in their new tank without a snail infestation!

Good luck if trying.

Did you remove the dead snails from the tank? the only downfall with this sort of way of eradicating snails is if the dead snails are left in the tank as they start to rot they could foul your water.

Yeah well the issue was there were just so many. It's good because some of the smaller shells will float, therefore easily taken out at cleaning time.
The others at the current time are just in the substrate and get sucked out in water changes.
