Smelly Aquarium Water

i never looked into bio-balls for the filter, but i have thought about them. so your saying instead of using the carbon sac i can just use those bio-balls in place?

You can use anything that you like as long as it will fit in the space you have. I have new kitchen sponges in mine right now. You have to be careful with them though. A lot of them have antibacterial stuff added. Those won't work.
I also like new white washcloths.(for finer cleanup) Really anything with no colors, chemicals, or perfumes that water will flow through will work. Some are just better than others.

hmm really.. so i don't need to buy a special spondge for it to replace the current one, wow!

Nope not at all. Carbon is one of the biggest rip offs in the hobby.
I just go to a craft store and buy sheets of cheap polyester fiber, its the same material as biobags and other filters excpet 1/3 of the price. Just use some scissors and cut it to size and thats it. :good:
