Small Shoaling Fish

I have a group of ten rummy nose tetras and want a group of a contrasting colour of fish that will shoal but not with the rummy noses. I was thinking something bright blue such as neons but fear that they will just mix with the rummy's.

I picked bright blue sort of colour as with having the rummy nose and clown loach my tank has quite an overpowering orangey red colouring.

Anyone any ideas or suggestions?

most fish of a similar shape/size will shoal together. I doubt you'll get to species that won't shoal in captivity.

Columbians get biggish and bitey. Columbians are the same. I say best bet is Neons. Zebra Danios would work but, they are for the top. I don't know what you could use unless your willing to track down someone with one of the rarer tetras.

I hate zebra danio's! They (although most other lfs fish are also) are so common.

I don't mind if it's a group of fish that swim at the top, everything in my tank seems to be a mid-bottom swimmer. I just want a shoal of something that doesn't mix with my rummy's and isn't grey, silver, red or orange in any way.

How about black neon's?

They don't really need to be tetras.

Pentazona Barbs - they shoal and they are peaceful.

How about White Cloud Mountain Minnows, they are great little shoaling fish and stay quite tightly together. They do have red tails though, but are a very attractive brown-goldy colour with a silver stripe. Great little fish.

Normans Lampeye Killifish might work. Very pretty little silver fish with an electric blue flash over the top of the eye, like brght blue eyebrows A significantly sized group of 10+ could make quite an impact

How about Threadfin Rainbow's. Mine shoal and with their fanning of the fins are fun to watch, mine are still young but have started to colour up nicely. Very peacefull and are not bothered by the larger tank mates at all.

Not sure if this is the same fish as honeythorn suggested but these are silvery with an electric blue streak down the length of their body.

I'm guessing the top picture is in a tank with blue led's

Yes that's them Some places also label them lampeye tetras despite the fact they aren't any such thing.
