hi,
i'm about to change my substrate over the weekend when i move house and the top layer will be a fairly fine gravel, will this get sucked up when i siphon my substrate with the weekly water changes any ideas?

No, you will soon get the hang of hovering a little above the substrate and watching the goop disapear up the syphon.

[EDIT]my spelling needs serious attention lately[/EDIT]

cool that's fine by me....i currently have proper gravel which is too heavy to get sucked up, but i shall learn. how do people with sand clean their tanks?

we swoosh the vac above the sand and all the cack floas about in the water and we suck it out. :hyper:

Sand is easy to clean but looks dirty quick if you dont keep on top of W/C :D. As said previously just swoosh on the top of it :D....

Also I agree with your idea of blacksand, It looks amazing from what Ive seen and im contemplating it on my new tank :D

black sand is great :D

sand i smuch better then gravel imo, and you cant see the crap on top with black sand :D
