Slug the Congo

Now that was a trip. :) Wouldn't want to put anything with that puffer that wasn't food, they would never see him coming. :)

haha thats mad! i want one.
So he sleeps in the sand?

I don't know if he actually goes to sleep there (I suspect he does), but that's how he hunts! :D

How cool! Doesn't he suffocate down there breathing in sand or do they close off their gills?>

Wicked!!...Kinda reminds me of a trap door spider...What do they eat in the wild?...again very nice!! ;)
hehe... I wouldn't like to be a passing fish certainly. :D He likes the same food as most puffers - anything with a bit of meat on the bone! Actually, Congos are one of the hardest puffers to wean off live food. They can be trained to take mussel but they'd rather have the stuff that moves.

What kind of puffer is he and how big do they grow ?? I take its a freshwater
Yes, he is a true Congo Puffer. The puffer you are referring to is the Spotted Congo puffer, so named because they are also from the Congo and er.. spotted. :D

Slug is the puffer that comes to mind when most puffer fanatics are referring to Congos.

Slug should grow up to 6 inches and is a true freshwater puffer. He's an ambush predator who likes to hide under the sand until a passing morsel comes by and then WHOOSH... it's dinnertime.

Good question. I wouldn't have a clue! :D Sorry.

That is such an awesome fish and video! I've never seen anything like that (Except on the discovery channel). He's so cute!! That must be so much fun to watch live! How long does he stay down there, till he gets bored??

WOW, once again, your puffer is amazing! It would be awesome to get a video of him coming out of the sand to get a crab walking by or something

Also, where do you find these puffers? LFS or do you order online?
Once again, great fish

Yep, it's great to see if you catch him at it. As for how long he stays under, it seems several hours. I only bought him yesterday but from what I've learned they spend most of their time under the substrate.
