Sliver Dollars

hi i have two xl sliver dollars thay are swimming side by side the one with red tip on the bottom fin is what i would call is shaking into the other one with out any red on the bottom one (like hitting fins together ?

any one know what thay are up ?

I had a group of 8 large ones and they did this regualry and coloured up. what I would say if you have the space is get more they look so much better as a group and happier as well

Spawning you have randy silver dollars!! We have our group at work that shimmy up and down allday for about 6-8 months of the year starting about now!!

i went to get more today but thay had sold out
one of them has a bright red bottom fin
the other one has very little red on bottom fin dose this mead male and female ?
I would love more but i want xl silver dollars as i love them when thay are very big

god i wish thay would breed

thay were doing this in the start of the video but mine dont have the black marks showing up ?

Well, our young ones at the shop join in with thespawning ritual (ak shimmying) butdont get the full black markings the adult dominant males get...

Yours i assume might still be fairly young? Or their first breeding season? Keep an eye on them, you will probably see the male get black markings on his sides as he matures Sounds like a pair though...

The one with the red is not a silver dollar but related to it. It's called a Red hook and they get bigger then the silver dollars. The real name is Myleus rubripinnis.

Silver Dollars get red fins too, not just the Red Hooks, you can tell the difference.... red hooks have huge fins compared... they are probably the common variety 'rubripinnis' which to me translates as 'red.... ' yeh... red ventral fin... as a guess!?

thay look the same in ever way but one has a bright red fin at bottom thats the only thing i can see
