Slimy Build Up On Heater

Hello.

I have had a Fluval Edge aquarium set up for about 3 weeks now & I know this sounds disgusting but a build up of white, snotty, slimy residue is building up the tank heater (sucker pads & temperature control dial)

Does anybody know how to stop this build up from occurring?

are there any fish in the tank yet.
When i set up my dads arc tank i noticed that about 2-3 weeks in b4 adding the fish it was the same, especilly on the suction cups but as soon as the fish were in it went away. Fish prop ate it.

Can you post any tank stats, water temp, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Ph? it sounds like you're trying to cycle with fish in the tank so it could be a result of an ammonia spike? I would suggest doing water changes and cleaning it away manually till it subsides naturally. And if you haven't got one, get a test kit, they're invaluable when setting up the tropical tank as you know what stage of the cycle you are at and when you are ready to stock more fish.

I am doing a fish in cycle & I've just done an 80% water change!

Hopefully this'll help the slimy goo stuff

& I'm doing some Freshwater tests as we speak.

I think I may have made an error in doing the water tests after my 80% water change but here it goes...

Ammonia - 0.25 ppm
Nitrite - 5.0 ppm
Nitrate - 160 ppm
pH - 7.6

That's pretty nasty stats, even for a Danio. Get your cycle sorted first then you may find these bacterial blooms disappear on their own!
