Slimey Wood

I have bought some wood from a Maidenhead, soaked it and added it to my tank but it now seems to have gone a little slimey. It is like there is a foggy mist all around the wood that you can't actually pull off as it is like a misty slime, any ideas?? Will it harm the fish at all??

if it was sort of translucent whitish and had a few bubbles in it :sick:

I thought

it was just fungus and bacteria feeding on the wood, and it goes away after a while. some fish even like to eat it :sick:

lol. at least thats what i think it is... :fun:

probably some "eatable" component is left in the wood, so the fungus and bacteria make the most of the available food sources :sick:

. should be harmless...............

It's probably some sort of bacteria 'stripping' it of anything organic still clinging, shouldn't be a problem, but monitor it, if there's enough, it'll spike the ammonia.

If it's spidery/stringy looking, and moves around the tank it may be a slime mould?

Bacteira bio film is all it is. It will be gone in a few days. Yes some catfish like to snack on it. It is will harm them just looks weird.

Mine will get like that after a large water change sometimes and it goes away.
