how long has your tank been running?
could yo also give me its size and the filtration used?

Sorry, my tank details are in my Signature, but its a 20gal tank with an Aquaclear 30 hanging filter, with Sponge(bottom), Charcoal and Clay rings on top. Fish stock is the same minus the Neons.

It has been up and running for 6 months or so.

How many Watts of light are over the tank? And is the algae/cyanobacteria blue, brown-red or Green?

The bulb says Natural Daylight F15T8 18" 17w. Its on probably 12hrs a day, the tank doesnt get direct sun. I'm about ready to scrub my plants.

yea the tank has been cycled and running fine. I have just noticed the algae on the plants the other day and it looks nasty. The algae is a clearish green.

Should I leave the light off for awhile?

If you can manage to take your plants out of the aquarium then you should be able to take them to your local aquarium shop and ask if they can keep the plants in the Siamese Flying Fox fish that they have for sale for a couple of days!they will clean the process of the algea on the plant a lot faster then buying a couple from the shop to go into your aquarium! also 8hours a day for lights and every other day for feeding will keep the algea at bay!
