Slate In A Tank

Hi All,

I'm re-doing my 125L and i'm, thinking about making the aquascape out of random slate from the builders merchants as non of the LFS's have decent rocks for sale. Is slate OK in a fish tank or does it leach into the water?

I've just been to my local garden centre and picked up five beautiful big pieces of purple slate for £5

Used to run 2 small 2ft tanks, one with slate.
The tank with the slate had a very clear blue tinge to the water. It was crystal clear, looked stunning.

I have slate in my tank, it's completely safe! Only problem you might have is that It can break easily into razor sharp shards.

At one time in my fish keeping career tanks were made with slate bottoms. I still use one of those today. They are fine.
