Right on the advice of peeps on here I got my skimmer setup (see my marine journal) - however it seems that the colelction cup keeps fillign with water after a few hours of skimming.

The manual says restrict the flow a bit - so i did and no change!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

James

Yup - i set it low and it'll stay there and then the next thing i know the bloody cup is full!!!

Full of water. It bubbles fine as I assume it should i leave it and then come back a bit later and full of water!

It's hanging on the side so the cup is probably 20cm above the water line.

Really could dowith having it working properly :(

Right well I had it on yesterday evening for perhaps 3 hours and all was fine - cup didn't fill etc.

Left it on overnight and the cup is full (brown murky water)!

Argh i can't understand why/how the water level changes???

Is it because of a change in water level in the tank?

Have you fitted the flow control valve to the pump.
If you turn this down a little it will provide better flow to the skimmer (I had to) and not overflow the cup every two minutes.
Also If you can, rig up an air pump, then you can run extra air into the skimmer for better skimming capability on the 400.

Hi BigC.

Touchwood it appears to be working now - the control valve was fitted and I fiddled with it on tuesday night and it's now done tuesday and wedensday night with no probs and pulling out a whole heap of nasty stuff!

Where would the airline run into?

James

There's a little nipple on the inlet side of the skimmer just before the pipe enters the skimmer body itself, attach the airline to this and adjust the amount of air entering the skimmer via a gangvalve.
This helps tremendously due to additional air injection.
