Hi, was thinking of taking the bus out to argos in a few mins to get a bag of sand for the 15l tank.

How big are the bags? Am i (14yo) going to be able to carry it?

Not that big, 1 is enough for the 15L - Im sure your a big strong boy and can manage a bag of sand :)

Just ignore the strange looks you will get from the people on the bus who will wonder why a 14yr old boy would want a bag of play sand - ahhhhhh bless him kinda looks LOL

Hahah, i was just wondering if it came in something like a bag of builders sand that is thick and has to be laid horizontal.

Naa not that bulky - put it this way, if I can carry two bags of it, then Im sure you can manage 1 - have fun, cant wait to see the pics of this tank all set up :)

Hah, great thanks.

Well, so far i have:

Tank
Filter
.......

I need:

Filter Media
Sand
Heater
Ammonia

So, mother will be giving me a lift to P@H monday to get a spnge for the filter, maybe 2 female platies for the big tank and check out their smallest filter and how much it costs.

Argos play sand comes in 15Kg bags and cost £2.49 each, Check the bags tho when you pick them up as many of them have little puncture holes in them and may find by the time you get home there is not much sand left.

If you hold the bag in the center it will fold over on itself like a towel would over your arm which can make it easier to carry.

EDIT - Noticed you have a larger tank too, is it not possible to use some of the filter media from that bigger tank and put it in the new filter for the smaller tank, (you will need to replenish the larger filters media that has been "Donated" still.

Then do a 25% water change on the larger tank but instead of pouring the water down the drain put that in the smaller tank and then top both tanks up ?? that way you have instantly cycled new tank, can add fish as soon as you have the heater and wont need to get amonia nor wat to do a fishless cycle.

I would do that, but as i JUST got that tank cycled using donated media, i do NOT want to touch it in fear of ####ing the whole thing up again, (Pardon my francáis).

Yeah I agree Keithoms, that media isnt mature enough yet and you dont want to go messing up that cycle.

A fishless cycle wont take too long.

Havent you left yet?

yeah based on that info i wouldnt then use recently donated media to donate to another tank otherwise you could have both crash out on ou which is not good at all.
