I am toying with the idea (way in the future) of having a tank with just convicts in. Would this work?

Depends on what you want, if you dont want them to breed you could get a group of females depending on the size of tank. or you could get a pair and just remove the fry when they breed.

It can work pretty nice :) I think I agree with above and try and stick with females as the fry will get a bit silly lols.

What kind of size were you thinking?

Just as an other idea you can do a nice community of similar species in a tank like cutteri and HRP if you stick to females it would look dead nice :)

I am hoping I am going to have my rio 300 spare when I move all the other fish about and get my other 400l tanks sorted. I was thinking of a tank of females. I have one pair at the moment (no babies yet) and I was thinking I could keep a few females. I like the HRP they would look really stunning as a group. I did want a tank with just frontosa in but they are going way out of my price range so I thought convicts would be the cheap alternative lol (I really like fish with stripes)

Wow 300 liters, my girlfriend is the same she loves blue and black striped fish lols. If you got some small frontosas they might not be too expensive? I know minxy got some recently but not sure how much they were.

I have 3 small Burundi fronts at the moment, they were £5 each, which wasnt too bad, They are going in one 400l tank, but I am going to see if they will mix ok with my Servs and a couple of other CA's (fingers crossed).

Recently people are only selling F1 Zaire fronts which cheapest I have found are £10 for 1-2" fish! which makes them way out of my range for a species only tank. Hence the thought of a nice large group of cons in a 300l.

ah right cool in that case I would go for it try and stick to just females not sure of numbers to suggest really. What other fish did you have in mind? I think with just females will broaden your stocking options maybe get some swordtails as dithers and some nice plecs and/or hoplos maybe?

I once heard a convict fan from Cichlid-Forum who had two convicts tanks-one male and the other female. But one day a male got into the female tank. Both parties were happy:)

I wasnt planning on any other fish just pure convict tank. Maybe possibly some pictus cats for the bottom
