He is being pushed about by the filters and bubble blowers and he just gets pushed around and sinks and struggles to swim back up. He is laying upside down and his back end is pointed slightly up he was also gasping for air earlier on but now he's just floating around half dead Jaws his mate is fine but he isn't. Only small just a baby please helphim live his life

What are you water stats? Do an immediate 30% water change, temp match the water going back in and dont forget to dechlor it.

Increase aeration into the tank via the filter outlet to make more surface movement.

What size tank, other inhabitants?

Will it kill them if they are in a tank thats two small for them>

Now you have your answer. I would guess that it is a problem with the water quality that caused this.

Water stats i don't have a kit? Sorry i'm only 12 i don't have enpough money to get one yet. I don't know how to change water and my dads out! Increased the aeriation he still loooks bad. 55 gallon. 2 gourmais, 2 catfish, 5 guppies i thionk 3 are ill, 5 neons, 2 silver sharks soon to be 1 i think,

Oops i think i may no i did a 25% water change last night and i put in all coldwater but the temp is 23,24,25,26. I did put in dechlorinator.

Ok hon, calm down, deep breaths. To do a water change, unplug the heater and the filter if its an internal filter, if its external thats fine leave it running, but definatley unplug the heater.

Get a bucket and use something to take some water out, a cup if you need to, change about 3 buckets full of water - tip the dirty water down the drain. The re-fill the bucket with fresh dechlorinated water (you can add warm water from the tap to get the temp right) and slowly put the water from the bucket back into the tank.

Once you have finished, turn back on the heater and filter if you turned it off.

Just take your time and dont rush it.

For your water stats, dont worry for now, although its easier to work out what is happening with a test kit, you can always take a sample of the water to the LFS and ask them to test it for you - get them to right down the results.

However, the problem is probably ammonia and nitrIte poisoning and for this you need to do regular water changes, its the only way to get the water quality right for the fish.

My dad is here and said we changed the water the yesterday and the cleaned the whole tank otu a week ago and said ITS DEIFINATLY not water quality. He's moody soz. He also said we don't need to do a water change.

Without water changes, Im sorry to be harsh, but you will lose most if not all your fish. How was this tank cycled, I assume with the fish in the tank? How did he do the water changes and cleaning of all the filters?

I know you probably cant argue with your father, but he is wrong and frankly its no skin off his nose if you do some water changes.

By cleaning out the whole tank, it probably went into a minicycle. This is where the bacteria in the filter die off and the ammonia (fish waste) in the water is no longer being broken down, causing bad water conditions. Imo, that's what's going on here, along with a small tank to make it worse.

Talk to your dad, show him this site. A water change is probably the best thing to do right now, even if it was just done. Ammonia can build up quickly, killing fish. Silver sharks are sensitive, so it could have been the first fish casualty from the cycle.

Good luck.

No he meant we don't need to do that 30% water change now as we alread done one yesterday. Without fish. Good he didn't seem bothered. Right now he is at the bottom laying upside down and my dad just had a go at me....

My tanks not that small is it? Anyway i showed him this site he doesn't agree he doesn't care about the fish all he cares about is his $$ I HATE him. We done a 25% water change yesterday by the way and he only ebcame ill today

Which is cheaper?
50 Litres of water and a little bit of dechlorinator, or
All your fish.

You don't need to change the water because it is "dirty", you need to change the water because there may be a build up of dangerous chemicals that are poisoning your fish.

These chemicals can build up very quickly. Because you may have overcleaned the tank, you may have lost some of the bacteria that break down these chemicals. Until these bacteria grow again you will need to change water to dilute the chemicals.

What i've done is put half of the tank water and some new water in a big container put some gravel an ornament and plant in their and a bit of food and put Oscar in their to see if he gets better. How come he is the only one to be ill and the others are fine including jaws his mate. loL

please dont get into an argument with your dad about it, that will only alienate him, talk gently to him and try to make him see it from your point of veiw, but do the water changes anyways, it dont cost anything :) and i really hope it goes well for you :)

Kk thanks you guys don't know what i'd wityhout ya i was gonna show u pics of him but the cameras batteries gone and we have no spare batteries. So do a water change got it. Anymore tips as to what i did wrong with him. P.s Guys he is improving a tiny bit in their
