So I was feeding Rocket a few mins ago and I noticed he's managed to rip a hole in his anal fin :( Silly fish, still got no idea how he did it. Probably trying to squeeze into places he shouldn't... He thinks he's a contortionist.

I would add a little aquarium salt and some IAL at the least and perhaps some Pima/MelaFix/BettaFix as a guard against any bacterial infection. Keep the water very clean.

He really doesn't like when I add salt, even at a very low dosage he gets upset. Don't have any IAL unfortunately but I will be keeping a close eye on it. I do have melafix here, I suppose I could add a half dose just as a precaution. I seem to recall Bettafix is like Melafix at 20% strength or something... Should I use a reduced dosage for that reason ?

The most annoying thing is his tail has only recently grown back in fully from the damage he had when I got him from the lfs. They had him in with danios :/

*edit - spelling.

The fancy bred long tailed Betta are prone to ripping fins etc especially on fake plants and wood etc.

Yes Betta do not tolerate MelaFix well or Pima Fix at normal doses. I'm not sure if it is both or just one they don't tolerate. But I'm guessing both. BettaFix is at a reduced percentage, because they don't tolerate it, and it kills them at the higher doses. The medication issues are one reason, I have become sceptical of keeping them in a community tank.

Betta are prone/suspetible to fin rot, so it is good to treat wounds, and be sure to take extra care with the water until he heals. Probably keeping the water extra clean is enough, but I also treat.

I remember that about Rocket's save from the wicked danios
