Sick People And Pierced Oscars

that is just sick, what is wrong with some people. Injecting them with dye, tattooing them and now piercing them, there is no need to do this to them.

The only kind of person who'd do this kind of thing to their fish is someone who has no respect or appreiciation for fish and shouldn't even be in the hobby.
Aside from the great amount of stress the fish must have gone through being mutilated like that, they must injure themselves all the time with great big spikes like that sticking through their mouths- eating must also be a problem. Any person who's had their tongue peirced will tell you how annoying it is getting food caught in the peircing- for these fish though it must happen everytime they eat, and because they cannot unclog food that gets caught in the other end of the peircing in their mouth, it probably just rots there, causing the fish much distress.

That's extremely tragic, I really hope it's an isolated case, and that he soon loses his interest and rehomes his fish to someone who'll care for them properly.

As for people having them, I've got my lip pierced (and nose, and ears and previously tongue) and it looks great, but that's JMO. It's my big arse and bad hair that look "bad" ;)

first people tattoo there fish and now this how sick can people get that also looks like a small tank for them and what is his problem i mean who does that and how what is the point its crazy and stupid at least people can chose if they want that but the fish cant even say no or oww (lol) its so incredibly cruel to do that to inacent(cant spell) fish

I don't have much against the piercings, other than it just looks stupidly pathetic, like the owner is trying to impress. What worries me is the size of the tank. If you look closely the fish "struggle" to swim past each other. The tank obviously isnt big enough for 1 of these fish, let alone 3, and so this is just showing the owner in a really bad light.
This video tells me that he doesn't know much about fishkeeping, and just does it to look good.

And I thought the worse I've seen is dye injection and tattooed patterns. It doesn't even look "cool" or anything, if that's what the owner was trying to attempt.

that is messing with nature big time, don`t think it looks good either even if they can`t feel it. And tail docking ,i`m against it, but i have a springer spainel and choose to have one that still has a tail, she is a gun dog/pet, we have had lots of problems with her tail getting caught on brambles and barbed wire leaving it bleeding, cut and sore, and this is just from ordinary walks, it is their nature to go through undergrowth,i now believe that for gun dogs it is probably kinder to dock but not for other breeds or for showing or pets.

yeah but fish hooks have barbs that are desighned to be gouged into the skin to not let the fish get away and then! the fish is drug through the water by your power and using its power to fight against you so theres alot of tension on the fish when you hook one. but the lip piercing is a little weird but if you think about it its not much different than branding cows or tagging birds. when we tranqed the pigeons at our school we had to put a tag through a little flap on their wing to mark how many and of what kind of pigeon made the trip to the other school (in flight thing)
I think fishing can be very cruel but the type of fishing you are describing is not simply fishing for sport - it is to eat. When it comes to fishing for sport, very few people use such damaging hooks as far as I am aware so the fish only really suffer from stress (though I feel that's bad enough personaly).

Anyway - I really wanted to say that, actually, it is incredibly different to tagging. There is a reason for tagging - whether it be tagging cattle for identification or wildlife to keep track of them (not to mention, in many cases, in aid of conservation - obviously not with pigeons though lol). The tags are also not placed in the mouth but in as unobtrusive a position as is feasable.

Irrispective of either of these situations you describe, however, that they exist doesn't make them right - so their existence also doesn't justify the injuries inflicted on those oscars.

plus peircing animals and people alike have been around since humans discovered sharp objects. theres a festival in arab countries that pierce them selves with large objects to show how much guts (polite word for balls) they got.

This is about as irrelevant as you can get. Lots of practices have been around a long time - not to mention lots of silly ideas/traditions etc. The amount of time they've lasted doesn't add any value to their validity.

I am also against docking/cropping in dogs and other animals for 'cosmetic' reasons. However, I think it is fine when done for practical reasons (like the gun dog example about two posts above or docking carriage horses' tails).

If it isn't clear already, I think the idea of piercing the oscars' lips is absolutely stupid and cruel.

That is really interesting..

I'd hate to see what the owner looks like.. probably has all sorts of fish-hooks in their face.. green hair.. tattoos everywhere.. hahahaa..

..some people I will never understand.

I don't mind that the owner looks like, they can do anything they like to their self.
Fish don't have a choice though.

i guess this can be compared to when humans pierce their little babie's ears... they don't have a choice either... pretty cruel if you ask me!! just to do it so it looks cool/cute... sheesh.. someone needs a hobby haha

What is the point in that? That is so cruel! Imagine the amount of stress they were put under just to stab that through their lip just to please the owner.
Its pathetic.
