Hi everyone,

Ok, I have a very sick Otto, I think he's constipated, as he's very bloated, no sign of blood or redness though, he is having difficulty staying the correct way up. I moved him to a quarintine tank with same water as main aquarium, I've had him quite a few months so he's got over the initial breaking in period with no problems, and has been eating fine, both algae and wafers.

Tank stats;
Ph 7.8
Amonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 40

He's now in a 13 litre tank, but I only filled it with about 2" of water.
I've blanched a piece of cucumber and put it in there, also boiled a pea, shelled, crushed and put that in too.
There's no heater yet, as room stays very warm, I have a spare 200w heater.

So, questions are;

1. Can I do anything else to help him?
2. Can I put a 200w heater in such a small volume of water?

Thanks.

Don't feed him for a few days.
Epson salt baths help draw the fluids out.
All you can do is try a bacterial med in issolation.
Are scales sticking out.

No, scales are fine, I've got anti internal interpet, or melafix, which would you suggest? Any ideas re heater?
Can you run through bath for me please. How to do?

Thanks Wilder.

Melafix is an external med only good on cuts and wounds,.
I would use the interpet med anti internal bacteria med.
If you can issolate him to a hospital tank you will need a heater and airstone.
You can add the epson salt to his tank if he's issolated.
Get you some info on the epsons salts.

Fish junkies site down think its a teaspoon to a gal

Hi, he's in hospital tank with 2" of water + an airstone, I have a spare 200w heater, will it be ok in that amount of water do you know? It will be totally submerged.
Is epsom salts the same as aquarium salts?
Can I use salts and meds together?

Also got pimafix, is that gentler than interpet?

Ok I'll take 25w heater from Betta tank, and pop 200w in there.
I'll get epsom salts tomorrow.
One last question;

would you use interpet anti internal or pimafix?

Thanks for your time Wilder,

Jackie

Pimafix is no good.
Internal bacteria med is for internal deseases I would go with interpet med.
Good luck.
